Senior Australian of the Year 2012

Laurie Baymarrwangga was awarded Senior Australian of the Year 2012 for her work towards preserving her homeland. She has been living her whole life on Murrunga, a tiny island in the Arafura Sea of northern Australia that can only be reached by charter plane or by boat. I cannot tell you how fascinating it was to get to meet her and see the Island of where she and her community lives. I can only hope that I will get the opportunity to go back and  visit them all again. Fingers crossed. (all photos are copywrited to Mari Ekkje)

Berry Mountain Farm

We rented this original 1840's slab cottage situated on a hilltop just a few km outside Berry. The cottage is on a farmers property, where the farmer Kevin let's you pick fresh vegetables and herbs from his garden.  It was the most relaxing stay.

Hunter River

We used most of the Sydney winter travelling back and forth between Sydney and the Hunter Valley shooting a 15 part mini-doco about life along the Hunter River for the ABC Mulit-platform. A fantastic journey where we met some amazing people along the way.
